A Ship of Fools
The Karavan Ensemble's debut piece is based on the allegory of a Ship of Fools, aboard which society's 'misfits' are gathered. Through dance, physical theatre, and site specific explorations a band of colourfuly edgy characters came to be. With ample audience participation, the Karavan Ensemble dares its public to open a door within, and encounter the fools that lay inside us all. Originally created and performed in Coachwerks, as part of Brighton fringe festival in May 2010.
Directed by: Yael Karavan Performed by: Linda Remahl, Bruno Humberto, Ana Fernandez Martinez, Sofia Fernandez Martinez, Rachel Champion, Pepa Ubera, Howard Sivills, Tamar Daly and Marion Deprez. Live music and sound composition by Tristan Shorr.
'We are in a kind of dream world, an imagination space, a mood-space, an atmosphere where the fourth wall has fallen and yet is also strangely a kind of ghost haunting the experience… The fourth wall is tossed about on this sea of invention… It’s full of heart, warmth and welcome.'
